MSU SLEIGHT OF HAND ???
Time for an exposé … anyone ? An MSU vs Board of Trustees exposé ? An exposé that MSU seems to be trying to muzzle ?
The MSU trustees are duly elected by the citizens of Michigan to be our watchdog, watching the taxpayer investment money that the State of Michigan pours into MSU each year. And yet by my reading of the local, Detroit news papers, it seems the publicity team at MSU (lead by those in power at MSU) have done a great P.R. job of foisting the blame for all that ails MSU (President Guskiewicz reneging on his longterm contract after two years & Athletic Director Batt reneging in his longterm contract after a year) on the MSU Trustees who dare question or criticize MSU.
Someday, hopefully, we can get a true and comprehensive view of what’s up at MSU ??? including the mixing of a Non-Profit with For Profit entities, “to wit” (as they say in the law business) Athletic Director Batt’s “creation of a third party [for profit] revenue arm Spartan Ventures with its non-profit Spartan Athletic Foundation and for profit Spartan Media Ventures.“ See the 6/16/26 Detroit News report (Sports section article of 6/16/26… Batt’s exit adds search to MSU’s queue). And, as the same New’s article reports, the new, Guskiewicz-Batt-inspired, for profit “Spartan Ventures revenues make up the bulk of the projected athletics revenues for the fiscal year 2027 at more than $114.7 million, through fund raising, ticket sales and parking revenue alongside sponsorship money is routed through [for profit] Spartan Ventures….” Is this, “Guskiewicz-Batt circuitous routing of millions a way of avoiding non-profit rules, regulations and/or transparency and/or quietly enriching certain MSU employees and athletes ??? If yes, that certainly paves the way for a lack of transparency and a “non-accountability” of MSU to do as they wish out of public view. ???
Well, that broad question directly above is certainly what we want the MSU Trustees to be concerned with, not censured for asking, not running away from and not signing on to hurry-up, no-tell “Loyalty Oaths” (as Trustee, Dennis Denno, called it). MSU is trying to censor discussions critical of its brand and censure those Trustees who we in Michigan have specifically elected and trusted to tell us what’s going on at MSU. Those MSU Trustees must never be silenced by MSU. And thank you MSU Trustees Dennis Denno, Rema Vassar and Mike Balow for not caving in to MSU’s overreach, seeking to silence you, our elected officials, from investigating, discussing and letting the public know what’s going on.
