America Exporting Torture

Spoiler alert. This is not about hyperbole. This is about STRENGTH and doing the RIGHT THING. This is about rectifying America’s “admitted” mistake and bringing Kilmar Abrego Garcia out of El Salvador’s torture chamber and back home to his American wife !!! (if he is still alive).

I am a child of World War II. I was raised on… strength of character, insistence on duty and the demands of courage and integrity— the language spoken in my two bedroom, bungalow home in Detroit by my uneducated, Greatest Generation parents. In my lifetime, I have seen Israel’s Mossad walk through the world with nary a sound and rescue the hostages at Entebbe. I have seen America’s resolve take Noriega right out of Panama. I have seen Presidents Eisenhower and Kennedy federalize State National Guards and enforce the Supreme Court’s Rule of Law of “desegregation” against obstructionists and lawless Governors of Arkansas and Alabama. I have spent 50 years studying and enforcing the Rule of Law in the Courts of Law on behalf of my voiceless clients, the common man and the forgotten woman.

But now, sad to report, I have lived long enough to see the “weakness” in our American leaders turn the Backbone of America into… ashes to ashes and dust to dust.

• I now bear witness to a weak, small man… as he imposes dictator rule as President of the United States, while, the Trump I know, was the man who dodged military service in Vietnam because fighting for your country is for suckers. But now, that “Chicken Hawk” masquerades as a strongman dictator.

• I now bear witness to a weak Secretary of State, “Little Marco Rubio” as Trump calls him, defiantly telling the rest of us, “No Court in the U.S. has the right to conduct foreign policy.” Hey Marco, where were you when the request to deport Kilmar Abrego Garcia was denied by a U.S. immigration Judge who said there was no evidence of gang membership by Garcia and no appeal was taken ??? And where were you in your Civic’s Class and in your Law School Class when Due Process and the Rule of Law was taught ???

• I now bear witness to a weak U.S. Supreme Court playing politics and creating confusion and reducing accountability by parsing the words “effectuate” vs “facilitate.” Hey, your Honors, in law it’s known as basic accountability 101 “cause & effect and accountability.” America, you admit you “caused” the mistake of sending Kilmar Abrego Garcia to El Salvador to be tortured, so now America, you must be held accountable for that mistake and rectify it. Case closed. Get Kilmar Abrego Garcia back to America. Get him from Trump’s buddy and fellow dictator, President Bukele of El Salvador and return him to his American wife.

• I now bear witness to jugglers and clowns and puppet shows from the Oval Office with a weak, fawning and ambitious El Salvador, President Nayiob Bukele doing Trump’s bidding while Trump pulls the puppet strings and Bukele lip syncs to reporters the preordained answer, “How can I return him to the United States ? I smuggle him into the United States ? Of course, I’m not going to do it. The question is preposterous.”

There you have it folks, a Banana Republic, leader from some third world, Trump-defined “sh_ _ hole” country now repeating on cue the message Trump wrote out for him… telling an American audience directly from We the People’s own White House that he is in charge and he ain’t going to do a damn thing to return Kilmar Abrego Garcia to America.

I know how these dictatorships eventually end. In the proverbial bunker with a self inflicted wound for dictators and countries. Until that happens, how many other innocents, not protected by Due Process and the Rule of Law, must suffer Trump’s exported torture… including God-fearing immigrants and innocent Americans. And, hopefully, when Trump finally self destructs, we non-MAGA members can limit the collateral damage of the self inflicted wounds on America and its system of Justice for All.
